District of the Year 2023

A summer spent nurturing our communities

Franconia Democrats precinct parties text with image of donkeyAs we head into the autumn — and election season — we thank Debbie Linick and Liz Murphy, our membership and outreach vice chairs, for a summer of tireless work to plant seeds of change in our community. Through Monday night phone banks and precinct parties, they’ve engaged members new and old, and inspired others to get involved with our mission to save democracy at the local level. In the photo above, Democrats in Hayfield precinct gather at the home of Mary and Bob Magnini to meet one another and hear from two of our elected leaders, Franconia District Supervisor Rodney Lusk and Delegate Mark Sickles. Similar parties in several other communities gave participants an opportunity to brainstorm with community leaders and elected officials about the best ways we can support local organizing and the Democratic Party. Please let us know if you’d like to host one in your community! Contact us.

Franconia Dems in the community

3 Lee Dems at table

Lee Dems Ed Joseph, Mark Heinitz and Mary Anne Mulligan were among the volunteers at Taste of Springfield on June 4, 2022. The event gave us a chance to meet some members of the community and energize some people to vote! Photo by Janelle Hartman

Debbie Linick and Deena Marcellus represented Lee Dems at a meeting of the Hayfield Secondary School Young Democrats in mid-May 2022. State Sen. Scott Surovell and Ronell Chatmon of Rep. Gerry Connolly’s campaign also spoke. Thanks to the Lee Dems, there was pizza!
